Visshaya Liga is Belarusian name of Belarusian Premier League and it is highest division in Belarusian football, created in 1992 year after Belarus gain independence from Soviet Union. Over the years number of clubs who participate in Belarusian Premier League varies, but from 2017 year participate 16 clubs in it. Each club play 30 matches during the season, one at “home” and one “away”, against every other club in Belarusian Premier League. Ranking in season table is according points won, goal difference and goals scored. At the end of the season 1st team qualifies for UEFA Champions League. The 2nd and the 3rd team are qualified for UEFA Europa League. Last two teams in end of the season table are relegated to lower division named Belarusian First League, and their spot are taken from the first and the second clubs from Belarusian First League.
Most popular clubs in Belarus, and well known from UEFA events are BATE Borisov and Dinamo Minks. Both teams reached only group phase of UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. Also BATE Borisov participate in knock – out rounds in UEFA Europa League during 2010-2011 and 2012 – 2013 years.
