Iceland`s Premier League is founded in 1912 year. This is highest football league in Iceland and is also known as “The Pepsi League” because of sponsorship reasons. The league is built by 12 clubs which play two matches against each other, one as host and one as guest, for a total of 22 matches per season. Usually, the season is played from spring to summer, because of the long winter. Clubs are ranked in table according to points they won. At the end of the season, the first team in table is champion of Iceland and wins the right to participate in UEFA Champions League. Next three clubs (2nd, 3rd and 4th) wins spot in UEFA Europa League. Last two clubs from end-season table are demoted to lower division and their spots are taken from first two clubs from this lower division.
