Norwegian 1st division was founded in 1948 year. During the years the name was changed many times but now is known as 1st Division and for a sponsorship reasons can be met as OBOS Ligaen. This is the second highest football division in Norway. It`s built by 16 clubs, and for one season every clubs plays against every other club in the division two times. One as host and one as guest, for a total of 30 matches per season. Clubs are ranked in table according to points they won during the season. At the end of the season, clubs finished on 1st and 2nd place are promoted to highest football league in Norway, named Eliteserien. Clubs from 3rd to 6th place are playing in promotion play-off. The winner of promotion play-off plays against club finished on 14th place from Eliteserien to determine which one of them will play in highest football division. Last two teams are directly demoted to lower 2nd Division, and the club on 14th place from 1st Division plays with a winner of play-off from 2nd Division. The winned will play in 1st Division for next season.
