Football in Estonia

History of Estonian football is a lot complicated because of the history of the country. Until 1990 Estonia was part of Soviet Union and the Estonian football was part of Soviet Unions football. After gaining independence government registered Estonian Football Association. National team of Estonia plays his first match after independence in 1992 year. The country never participate in FIFA World Cup or UEFA European Championship.

The football league in Estonia is built by lot of divisions. Top three highest divisions are:

  • Meistriliiga, highest division of Estonian football– 10 clubs
  • Esiliiga, second-highest division – 10 clubs
  • Esiliiga B, third-highest division – 10 clubs

Each season Estonian Football Association launch tournament named Estonian Cup which is knock-out football competition.
