Football in Serbia

Serbian football history is split in two, till dissolution of Yugoslavia and after this. Nowadays football leagues and national football team of Serbia are governed by Football Association of Serbia. National football team of Serbia achieved their best positions in international football tournament as national football team of Yugoslavia. In FIFA World Cup they finished 2 times on 4th place during 1930 and 1962 year. In UEFA European Championship they take two times 2nd place during 1960 and 1968 year and finished 4th in 1976. Serbia takes 13th place in FIFA all-time table.

Football league system is built by Serbian Super Liga – 16 teams participating in it and this is the highest division of Serbian football and the Serbian First League with 18 teams in it. Below in the structure of Serbian football are third- highest division which is split by geographic position.

Every year Football Association of Serbia organize national football tournament named Serbian Cup and the winner qualifies for UEFA Europa League.
