This is highest football division in Sweden, formed in 1924 year and contains 16 clubs. Each club play 30 matches for the season – one as host and one as guest, against every other team in Allsvenskan. Clubs are ranked in table according points they won, goal difference and goals scored. The winner of the season is the club with most points – champion on Sweden, also receive right to participate in UEFA Champion League. 2nd and 3rd clubs are qualified for UEFA Europa League. If the winner of Svenska Cupen (Swedish Cup) is already registered for any UEFA tournament the last spot for UEFA Europa League is taken from club finished on 4th place. Last two clubs are demoted to lower football division named Superettan and their places are taken from first two clubs in Superettan. Third-last team from Allsvenskan and third team from Superettan plays a play-off to determine which team will play in Allsvenskan and which one will play in Superettan for the next season.
