Primera division is highest football league in Paraguay, which is founded in 1900 year. As more of South Americans countries the season is split in two parts named: Clasura and Apertura. In each part clubs play 15 matches against every other club for a total of 30 matches per season. At the end of the second part the winners from Apertura and Clasura plays play-off to determine the winner. The three clubs with average worst result from last three years are relegated to lower Segunda Division and their spots are taken by top 3 clubs from same Segunda Division.
